Mr. Keillor is my favorite story teller. Have you ever listened to his voice? His shows is on every Saturday from 6-8pm on PCC, FM89.3. He perform live on the Prairie Home Companion, the American Public Media's in Minnesota. Mr. Keillor sings and acts. My favorite show is "Guy Noir, Private Eyes".
Mr. Keillor will be in the Greek theater, Griffith Park in June 5, 2009.
I also listen to his Almanac on KUSC, FM91.5, every weekday at 5pm, and replay at 7pm. Mr. Keillor will honor every writer, poet's birthday. Then, he will read a poem. His voice is warm, soft and you can hear every sound and syllable that he says. He speaks the perfect English.
It does not take a special character to like Mr. Keillor. I like him because he touches my soul!

Yes I like Keillor as well. A few years ago I saw him and his troupe perform at the Hollywood Bowl and soon afterwards I rented his movie named after his radio show which was pretty funny. My husband, who's from Minnesota originally, tuned me into Keillor. Thanks for the post about his upcoming performance at the Greek Theatre!
ReplyDeleteEvery Thursday night as I drive home from school, just as I transition from the 10 West to the 5 North (it's almost the same spot every week) Garrison Keillor's Almanac comes on the radio. I know what you mean about his voice...there's something about it that draws you in. He always has something interesting and worthwhile to tell the audience & I always hear something that I didn't know before. I also enjoy listening to the poems he reads. Something I would never find on my own...A nice way to wind down from a busy day.
ReplyDeleteI love Prairie Home Companion but for some reason, I hate the Almanac. I was in his own last year and some young people told me that he is "old style," that their parents would listen to him (which makes sense because I'm closer to their parents' age). I even went to the Wagabon store at the Mall of the Americas and bought a couple of magnets! Cheers, Kuki
ReplyDeleteI too am a Garrison Keillor fan. I've listened to Prarie Home Companion for years. Sometimes I get a little tired of it, but somehow I keep listening. I especially like the Joke Show. Mr. Keillor helped me find my way to my spiritual home in the Unitarian Universalist Church. Though he's a Lutheran, he always pokes gentle fun at Unitarians. I was curious about that church because of what he'd said on his radio show. I investigated further and found a church I really love.
ReplyDeleteI have the same experience as Tesolsu. I end up listening to the Almanac every Thurs. night. It doesn't always speak to me, but Mr. Keillor has a good poetry reading voice. I bought his compilation of poems, Good Poems. I'm not a poetry lover, but the Almanac inspired me to give poetry another chance. I like it more having read many of the poems in the compilation.
